Glossary - O
Oledcomm
A French-based LiFi company offering a complete range of LiFi products such as modems, dongles, bridges and dedicated LiFi cloud SDK online.
Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing - OFDM
A method of data transmission where a single information stream is split among several closely spaced narrowband subchannel frequencies instead of a single Wideband channel frequency.
Optical Camera Communication – OCC
It refers to the wireless communications between optical sources and cameras (image sensors).
OSI Model (Open Systems Interconnection Model)
A conceptual framework used to describe the functions of a networking system..
OTB-5G+ (Open Testbed Berlin - 5G and beyond)
A BMBF-funded research project with 12 project partners. The overall project objective is to investigate a new network architecture for 5G and subsequent mobile telecommunications systems and to implement it in the planned Open Testbed Berlin.
Optical Wireless Communication – OWC
This refers to transmission in unguided propagation media through the use of optical carriers: visible, infrared (IR), and ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
Optical Wireless Communication Technologies
Visible Light Communication (VLC), Light Fidelity (LiFi), Optical Camera Communication (OCC), and Free-Space Optical Communication (FSOC) are examples of OWC technologies where each has its own underlying architecture and operating principles.
Optical-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing - O-OFDM
A modified form of OFDM used in visible light communication to ensure unipolarity of the signals in the time domain, as light cannot have negative intensities.
Optical Wireless networks for flexible car manufacturing cells - OWICELLS
A project aimed to develop more flexible manufacturing cells in the area of automotive engineering through the use of fast optical wireless technologies instead of relying on wired fieldbuses or common radio solutions. The three-year project was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with 1.6 million euros. Project partners were BMW AG, evopro and Fraunhofer HHI (coordinator). OSRAM and the Munich University of Applied Sciences were associated partners and subcontractors, respectively.
Optical Wireless Network Internet Infrastructure - OWNii
OWNii Coin is developed to oversee, develop, and design the physical infrastructure necessary to implement LiFi in the United States and developing nations abroad.
